First Main Exam: March 31, 2011 / Program of Revisions

Dear students, 

Your first main exam will take place next week and will account for 30% of your "contrôle continu" semester grade.  

1/ You are strictly forbidden to switch groups, I will remove up to 10 points if you switch groups without my explicit and prior agreement for which you will have to provide me with a genuine and sincere justification. 

2/ Program of revisions:

a) Gram: from Unit 8 to 12 included (among others, you will have to translate sentences  in French and in English using specific grammar structures)

b) Audio reports: listening comprehension + vocabulary (you will hear extracts TWICE only and there will be questions on these extracts)

- The Danger of Desertification

- Smokers and Lung Cancer

Students in "Contrôle Continu": First Main: March 31 / Contrôle Final (May 26th)

Dear students, 

As I said yesterday, the first main exam for the students in "contrôle continu" will take place on March 31st and will cover everything done during the second semester until next week included (March 17). This exam will count for 30% of your "contrôle continu" semester grade.

For the students in "contrôle continu", there will be two short vocab tests and each test will count for 15% of the "contrôle continu" semester grade. I will let you know at least two weeks in advance.


Contrôle Continu and Contrôle Final Students:

Your second main exam which will also be the "contrôle final" for the students who are not in "contrôle continu" will take place on May 26th and willl cover everything done during the second semester. This exam will count for 40% of the "contrôle continu" semester grade.

LAST EXAM DATES (January 2011)

Dear students, 

Students in "contrôle continu":

On January  06, 2011 (Thursday), your second main exam will take place for those of you who are in "contrôle continu".


On January  13, 2011 (Thursday), there will be a short vocab test ("High Fuel Prices", "Homelessness in America" and "Food Crisis") for the students in "contrôle continu" only. 

Students in "contrôle final": the dates, the hours, the rooms and the program of revisions for the "contrôle final"  are the same for those of you who are in "contrôle continu" ie on January  06, 2011 (Thursday).

You are not allowed to switch groups without informing me and without a valid and sincere justification: I will remove up to 10 points if you switch groups without my explicit and prior agreement to do so.

REVISION PROGRAM FOR ALL STUDENTS (this is for the second main exam for students in "contrôle continu") and the "contrôle final" exam (for those students who are in "contrôle final".

1/ Vocabulary and Listening Comprehension:

        - High Fuel Prices
        - Homelessness in America
        - Food Crisis

2/ Grammar: from chapter 1 up to chapter 08 included from your textbook (English Grammar in Use by Raymond Murphy)

THERE WILL BE NO CATCH-UP SESSION WHATSOEVER EVEN IF YOU HAVE A VALID AND SINCERE JUSTIFICATION FOR YOUR POSSIBLE ABSENCE IN JANUARY. 

AS PER THE RULES OF THE UNIVERSITY, A ZERO MARK/GRADE IN CASE OF ABSENCE AT ONE (OR ALL) OF THESE EXAMS IS THE ONLY OPTION I (REGRETFULLY) HAVE.

3/ Reminder for those students who are in "contrôle continu": they must provide me with all the exercises from a chapter oft their choice in case they are absent, otherwise they will get a zero mark (for each absence without a chapter of exercises) which will be added to all your semester grades.

Message for the Thursday groups / Homework for November 18

Dear L2 students  (the Thursday groups), 

Once again, access to the Clignancourt centre was not possible yesterday morning  (Nov 04) because the entrance gate was blocked by a group of strikers. All the work that had to be done for yesterday is postponed for next class (November 18) as there will be no class on Nov 11 which is a public holiday.

Homework for next class (November 18) 

1/ Audio report "Homelessness in America"

- listen carefully to this audio report

- answer as precisely as possible the questions I had given last week

- check the vocabulary and start learning it
